PRELAW at FDU
Prelaw is FDU's legal studies program. We combine traditional liberal arts education with opportunities to gain practical, hands on experience in the legal world.
WHAT We Offer
FDU Prelaw offers courses, a minor, and roundtables and workshops with professionals, academics, and admissions officers. Our students have unique networking, classroom and field experiences.
WHO is Prelaw For?
Prelaw is for any admitted FDU student (at the Florham Campus) interested in studying law from a critical, cross-disciplinary perspective drawing on scholars and practitioners, classroom and experiential learning.
Faculty
Students interested in prelaw advising, attending law school, or any other support, can consult with any of the following faculty. Below you can find out more information about the background of our faculty involved in the prelaw program. Please contact the faculty directly to set up an appointment.
Madelyn Ferrans (J.D., Washington College of Law, American University; B.A. The College of William and Mary).
Prof. Ferrans has taught numerous law-related courses at FDU, including Introduction to Law, Civil Rights and Liberties, Constitutional Law, Trial Advocacy/Mock Trial and Civic Engagement. She has worked as a lawyer in private practice with a top New Jersey law firm, a government lawyer specializing in international law, and as a law clerk for a criminal judge in Washington D.C. Professor Ferrans has experience in litigation, administrative law and criminal law. She was the winner of the 2014 Adjunt Teacher of the Year Award. She is currently the Advisor for the Mock Trial team, a campus organization that competes in inter-school competitions.

Bruce Peabody (Ph.D. in Government, University of Texas at Austin; B.A. Wesleyan University).
Prof. Peabody has taught at FDU since 2000, offering courses such as Criminal Law, Advanced Criminal Law, Law and Society, The Supreme Court, and Judicial Politics. His research areas include the separation of powers, judicial independence, and constitutional law and theory. He was the recipient of the 2012 Distinguished Faculty Award for Research and Scholarship.

David Rosen (Ph.D. in Anthropology, University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign; J.D. Pace University School of Law)
Prof. Rosen teaches antrhopology and sociology at FDU, including classes such as War and Crime, Law and the Family, and Constitutional Law. His work on child soldiers has been recognized internationally. His honors include the 2009 Distinguished Faculty Award for Research and Scholarship.

Meghan Sacks (Ph.D. in Criminal Justice, CUNY, John Jay College of Criminal Justice)
Prof. Sacks is the Criminology Program Director. She has directed the criminology program and taught classes at FDU since 2010, offering courses including Introduction to Crime and Criminology, Women and Crime, Probation and Parole and Policy Analysis. She also directs the internship program for criminology majors. Her research areas include bail reform, plea bargaining, sentencing legislation and policy reform.
